I suppose I shouldn't say that otherwise we will lose the next ten games. But the Western Springs Orcas won their game away against Ellerslie on Saturday 6-0. The kids have improved noticeably since the last game and they all contributed. The two goal-scorers continued their domination of the scoreboard, although others did take a shot at goal (including Rory). Have to work on throw-ins, a couple got hit by the ball when they weren't watching. A few other areas need practice, including defence which is still not getting used much except during our five a side practices. They did improve markedly during training last week after we had tried defence. Joseph is like a little Pele, races from his own goalmouth with the ball and scores at the other end. Slides in to take the ball off the other team (not tackling his own team, this is important, as some do). Hard to tell the kid not to score so often (scored 4 of the 6). Kids were all well behaved, and I was actually a bit tired after running up and down the field for half an hour. So far we have scored 9 goals and conceded none. We must be due to get our arses kicked soon. The main thing is they keep enjoying themselves.
In the less important sport, the NZ Women won the Rugby World Cup in the Netherlands, Auckland beat the Hurricanes in an orgy of try scoring, the Otago Highlanders won their game in SA then watched the QL Reds lose so they play Auckland in the semi. Canterbury beat the Sharks in SA, now face them in the final but at Lancaster Park this time. Three NZ teams in the semis, not Aussie teams. Both the Chiefs and Hurricanes did relatively well all things considered. Arsenal won the FA Cup Final, which I watched some of, now that I am a coach I need to see what the others are doing with their teams.....
Took the family to the new Philips Aquatic Centre at Mt Albert Grammar. A Pirate theme in the kids area with all sorts of interesting decorations. The main pool has a soft gradient like a beach, and a wave maker that goes for about 10 minutes every half hour. Kids loved surfing up the beach on inner tubes. We were all a bit knackered after that (I went to the gym beforehand). We went down to the school later and let them run around and I climbed a tree (really cool for climbing, dead easy).
The budget was read this week. Petrol up a bit, ciggies up a bit, nobody liked it. The lesbian goat herders from Dannevirke felt that there should have been something in it for lesbian goat herders from Dannevirke. The unemployed morons with gambling problems thought there should have been something in it for lesbian goat herders from Dannevirke (I told you they were morons). You get the idea, same as every other year. All in all, seemed reasonably sensible and responsible to me, but may not be enough to get things going too quickly around the place.
They found something in the Ben and Olivia thing the other day, thought it was a body, turned out to be a sail. They are still searching the area with sonar and deep sea stuff. Too much fuss if you ask me, still I suppose they need to talk about something.
Major scraps going on with Firefighters and Police are coming.
Catch you all in another week.
